Lauren Jane Salt is a multidisciplinary artist based in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia, whose work explores the convergence of ceramics, floristry, and organic materials. With a background in floristry, she studied under Master Florist Gregor Lersch in 2015 and was named WA Florist of the Future at the 2017 Interflora Competition. Salt's extensive experience in floristry, including a decade-long career and training at Flowers Design School, has profoundly shaped her artistic vision, with the compositional principles of ikebana informing her approach to ceramics.
Salt's ceramic practice began in 2014 at North Metropolitan TAFE, where she transitioned to focusing fully on clay as a medium, merging plant-based inspirations with sculptural forms. Her works explore themes of cultural myth, identity, and transformation, often using ceramics and nature-based elements to reflect narratives of growth and personal history.
In addition to her solo practice, Salt co-founded VOLIM, a collaborative label with artist Tia Tokić that bridges art, design, and nature. Together, they experiment with clay, textiles, and floral arrangements, creating pieces that blur the line between functional design and artistic expression. Salt has exhibited extensively in Perth, including participating in the 2024 Indian Ocean Craft Triennial at Goolugatup Heathcote. She currently teaches ceramic sculpture and hand-building classes, sharing her nature-inspired approach and hands-on techniques with students.
